Welcome back to I-81 Sports’ weekly fantasy football article that tells you who to bench (sit), who to play (start), and who to pick up off waivers (snipe) heading into your weekly fantasy matchup.
Week 4 delivered more injury chaos and the first real sample of how teams adjust when key pieces go down. Managers who stayed on top of the backup situations and matchup edges continue to separate themselves. With the first byes of the season arriving, roster management gets a little tighter.
Here are our lineup recommendations for Week 5.
Scheduling
The Carolina Panthers and Kansas City Chiefs are on bye. The slate opens Thursday night with the Buccaneers at the Cowboys and closes Monday with the Bills at the Rams. There’s also an early London game Sunday morning (Eagles at Jaguars).
Injuries remain the story of the young season. Keep close tabs on practice reports for players like Saquon Barkley (hamstring), Ja’Marr Chase (concussion protocol), Lamar Jackson (ankle), and others who left games early in Week 4. Know the backups and how volume shifts when a star is sidelined.
SIT
QB: Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles (at Jaguars)
The Eagles’ offense has looked stagnant at times, and a road game in London against a Jaguars defense that can generate pressure is not the ideal spot. Hurts’ dual-threat upside is real, but the early kickoff and potential for a lower-scoring environment make him a risky play if you have a stronger alternative with a better matchup.
RB: D’Andre Swift, Chicago Bears (at Packers)
Swift’s role has been inconsistent, and the Packers’ run defense has been stout early. Even with committee help available, the volume and efficiency have not been reliable enough for a confident RB2 start in a tough road environment. Look elsewhere if you have cleaner options.
WR: Josh Downs, Indianapolis Colts (at Steelers)
Downs has underwhelmed even in favorable spots and now faces a Steelers defense that limits opposing receivers. Target volume has not translated into consistent production, and the Colts’ passing game remains volatile. Bench him in favor of higher-floor plays.
TE: Mark Andrews, Baltimore Ravens (at Falcons)
Andrews’ target share has been up-and-down, and the Ravens lean heavily on the run and other weapons when Jackson is limited or the game script turns. Atlanta has been respectable against tight ends. Stream a higher-upside option if available.
START
QB: Jacoby Brissett, Arizona Cardinals (vs Lions)
Brissett continues to deliver solid fantasy numbers in the Cardinals’ offense and now gets a high-scoring home environment against a Lions defense that can be exploited through the air. Volume and red-zone opportunities should be there. A strong streamer or QB2 play with upside.
RB: Kyren Williams, Los Angeles Rams (vs Bills)
Williams remains the clear lead back and benefits from a favorable home matchup in what projects as a competitive, high-scoring game. Even against a solid Bills defense, his workload and scoring chances make him a must-start RB1/RB2.
WR: Michael Wilson, Arizona Cardinals (vs Lions)
Wilson has emerged as the clear top option in Arizona, posting strong target and yardage numbers. The Lions’ secondary has been vulnerable, and an expected shootout should keep the Cardinals throwing. Fire him up as a WR2 or strong flex.
TE: Mike Gesicki, Cincinnati Bengals (at Dolphins)
With potential limited availability for key Bengals receivers, Gesicki’s role expands in a favorable matchup against a Dolphins defense that has struggled against tight ends. Reliable targets and scoring upside make him a solid mid-tier start.
SNIPE
QB: Aaron Rodgers, Pittsburgh Steelers (at Indianapolis) (rostered in roughly 5-10% of leagues)
Rodgers has posted back-to-back strong fantasy outings with efficient production and touchdowns. He gets a home matchup against the Colts, who have allowed solid numbers to opposing quarterbacks. A low-cost streamer worth grabbing before percentages rise.
RB: Emanuel Wilson, Seattle Seahawks (vs San Francisco) (rostered around 50% or less in many leagues)
With Jadarian Price on IR and Zach Charbonnet still working back, Wilson stepped into a significant role and produced. The Seahawks host the 49ers in a competitive game. Priority handcuff/flex add while the volume is there.
WR: Keon Coleman, Buffalo Bills (at Rams) (rostered in low single digits to teens in many leagues)
Coleman saw elevated targets and production with other Bills receivers dealing with injuries. He has the size and role to remain involved against the Rams. Cheap upside add with weekly flex potential.
TE: Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams (rostered under 10% in many leagues)
With the Rams’ tight end depth thinned by injury, Higbee has stepped into a larger role and posted solid receiving lines. A high projected total against Buffalo should keep targets flowing. Low-cost streaming option with a clear path to volume.
Set your lineups, put in those claims, and good luck this week. As mentioned above, there is an early Sunday game, don’t forget!
