Gate City, Virginia’s Mac McClung has signed his first standard NBA contract.
McClung signed with the Indiana Pacers according to his agent Greg Lawrence, in news that first broke on ESPN on Monday night. The deal is for multiple years but is not guaranteed.
He reacted to the news on X, posting, “Thank you God!!!”
McClung, who is the first ever three-peat NBA Slam Dunk Champion was most recently with the Orlando Magic. The former Georgetown and Texas Tech guard has averaged 5.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in six career games. The Pacers will be Mac’s fifth career team with previous stops with the Magic, 76ers, Lakers, and Bulls.
To make room for Mac, the Pacers plan to cut former number 2 overall pick James Wiseman. Wiseman, a Gatorade National Player of the Year, is a Tennessee native from Nashville that played college basketball at Memphis and was a 2022 NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors.
McClung ended his high school career in Gate City winning its first-ever state championship in a season where he broke NBA legend Allen Iverson’s VHSL single-season scoring record in five fewer games and also set the career points record with 2,801, a record across all VHSL classes. McClung was scoring leader and MVP of the G League last season.
McClung potentially could make his Pacers debut Wednesday night at Dallas. That game tips at 8:30 p.m., and is available to stream on Fubo or via NBA League Pass.
