Spain seems to suit Mac McClung just fine.
The Gate City native and three-time NBA Slam Dunk Champion McClung was named FIBA Europe Cup MVP for the month of October. McClung averaged 20.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game in three Cup contests. He shot 65.7% from the field and 53.3% from 3. Girona is off to a 4-0 start in the tournament, and McClung sat out Girona’s fourth game in group play for load management.
Girona defeated Patrioti Levice 90-66 on Wednesday to improve to 4-1 in Group B, clinching first place. McClung scored 18 points, going 7-for-12 from the field and 4-for-8 on 3-pointers.
Up next is another round of group play, this time four groups of four, with the top two in each advancing to a eight-team bracket.
NFL
TE James Mitchell (Big Stone Gap/Union/Virginia Tech) got called up to the active roster by the Dallas Cowboys prior to Sunday’s game with Arizona and scored his first touchdown in the NFL since 2022. Williams pounced on the ball when Cowboys RB Javonte Williams fumbled in the end zone.
Mitchell was placed back on the practice squad Monday. He can be elevated to the game roster two more times before Dallas would need to sign him to the 53-man roster.
Denver TE Nate Adkins (ETSU/South Carolina) got back into the end zone for the first time since September, grabbing a 2-yard touchdown as part of a two-catch 4-yard day. Adkins had not caught a pass since Denver’s Sept. 27 game against the Rams.
Pro Baseball
Elizabethton native Evan Carter was a finalist for the AL Gold Glove in center field but did not receive the award on Sunday. The honor instead went to Boston’s Ceddanne Rafaela, who won the Gold Glove in center for a second straight season.
Coaching
Another famous Elizabethton native, Jason Witten is getting more than he probably anticipated in his first season on the Oklahoma staff. Witten, who was brought on to coach tight ends, has been appointed interim offensive coordinator after playcaller Ben Arbuckle got fired.
